When will the West triumph in September again?

When will the West triumph in September again?
This weekend both beaten All Ireland finalist Galway hurlers and Mayo footballers have straight forward provincial semi final assignments. Neither side should have trouble against Laois nor Roscommon but who would you fancy more to break the hoodoo and win the big one? Galway (9/2) has gone 25 years without Liam taking in 5 final defeats in that time. Mayo (8/1) has 62 years of pain with the added shame of losing their last six consecutive finals. Jinxed or simply not good enough? Not good enough for the most part but that’s changed now. I’ve already gone on record as saying I believe Mayo will go all the way. Do I feel the same for Galway? Vibes are good in the camp and poor league campaign doesn’t tell us much as their form was even worse (relegation playoff) before last year’s epic Leinster final victory and look how close Cunningham’s men got to the big one after that.  John Mulholland has framed a market on who will win the title first with Galway at 4/6 and Mayo at 11/10. This bet may take longer to settle than the Ireland’s debt crisis but of the two its Mayo that look closer to reaching the summit in September.

Specials:
Galway to win Liam McCarthy before Mayo lift Sam Maguire: 4/6
Mayo to lift Sam Maguire  before Galway lift Liam McCarthy: 11/10

Both sides to win the All Ireland this year: 50/1
Both side to reach the final: 6/1
Both to be beaten finalists this year: 20/1

Us Open Golf Offer
John Mulholland has a fantastic offer for the US Open which starts on Thursday. If your player finishes second to Tiger Woods, John will pay you out as winner. So for example if you back Rory McIlroy at 16/1 but finishes second to Tiger you’ll still get paid. I like Billy Horschel at 90/1. He has the right game for a course that plays short. Watch out for the wind on this course as they have flags on the pin but wicker baskets. Its hard to discount Grame McDowell in these type of conditions nor Phil Mickelson who showed his deft touch is back around the greens as well as his legendary approach game at the Fedex St Jude. Mickelson wants this major more than any other and has looked like winning many times usually with my money riding on it. 2004, 2006 and 2009 its hard to figure out how he actualy lost them.

Galway Football continues
Who would have thought a team like Killererin would be on the brink of exiting the Galway Senior Championship in the middle of June? They face a tricky game against Cortoon Shamrocks. Both sides were atrocious in round one so it’s set up for an intriguing encounter. At 7/4 Cortoon look the value. In the other matches Mountbellew Moylough will have no trouble with Barna at 1/4. St James should bounce back against Caherlistrane at 4/6. I’d leave Salthill alone from a betting angle as who knows where their heads are at after defeat to Carna and Michael Brethnachs will have Fiontan O Curraoin back from injury. I’d have slight preference for Annaghdown over Moycullen with Gareth Bradshaw a major doubt.
