Wonderful weekend of Six Nations, NFL and GAA

Wonderful weekend

This is my favourite weekend of sport in the entire year with the Six Nations and GAA season getting
under way and the weekend ending late Sunday night with the Superbowl making next Monday morning one of my grouchiest. I’ll be lucky enough to be in attendance at the Ireland Scotland game but with my Scottish wife by my side only one of us will be leaving the Aviva happy. I won’t tell her beforehand but from a betting view I feel pretty confident Ireland will win by 13 points or more at Evens. The bet of the weekend lies in the Gridiron though where instead of backing Seattle to win take Marshawn Lynch to get Superbowl MVP. Normally the winning quarterback receives this award and if Denver wins, Peyton Manning will win MVP. Seattle’s quarterback Russell Wilson relies heavily on Lynch to bulldoze the opposition with a power running game. Not only is he their best offensive weapon, he’s their best defensive weapon as he eats up the clock and  keeping Manning off the field is the best way to stop him. People awake at 3am are normally upto no good so if that’s you on Sunday night backing him at 11/2 is one way to try and get lucky.

Division Two dogfight
This is the toughest Division two in living memory with sides like Donegal, Down, Monaghan and even Meath having Division One aspirations and I’d rate those sides better than Derry & Westmeath who are in the top division. Down is the enigma as although top class on paper, they are lacking confidence and need to start producing results or they could be shock relegation candidates at 4/1. Galway themselves start with a tough away trip to Navan and are 2/1 to win. Galway’s first two matches look their toughest so any points on the board will be huge. Meath destroyed a quality DCU team in the O Byrne Cup but if there is a weak link it is their half back line which Kildare exploited last weekend in the final. Meath will look to get high balls into Michael Newman whilst Stephen Bray will run himself into the ground for the cause. Their sail is up and although Galway did beat them in their last meeting two years ago this is a totally different proposition to the 2012 meeting. Verdict Meath to win by 4-6 points at 11/4
