While plenty of anger circles the hurling fraternity around the county at decision of the central council making Galway play an All Ireland final in the oppositions backyard this weekend, football fans are gearing up for the County Football Semi finals in Tuam stadium on Sunday evening.
Barna v Corofin- Sunday 4pm throw in
Barna have been a breath of fresh air in this year’s championship under Pat Fallon. They have came from nowhere to rack up impressive victories against Caltra, Tuam and Annaghdown to get to this stage. Will Corofin prove a bridge too far? John Mulholland certainly hopes so as he’s up to his gills in liabilities on them ,having laid one Salthill punter in particular €100 at 66/1 ante post. They also went with an early match quote of 9/2 and once again, they’ve been bowled over. It should be noted, that Barna have certainly been a betting team this championship, with money coming for them in each round of the championship. Are the players giving themselves extra motivation? We certainly couldn’t confirm that.
This is Barna’s first ever senior county semi final while Corofin are back to back champions. On paper it looks a David v Goliath struggle and the bookies will be roaring on Goliath this time.
Mountbellew/Moylough vs Killererin- Sunday 5:45 throw in
These sides met in round one back in May, when Mountbellew/Moylough triumphed, will they now feel the sting of the backdoor? Killererin boast some top class forwards in Nicky and Padriag Joyce supported by Tommie Wilson, Ger Butler, Jonathan Keane and James Hughes. If Killererin can shackle Joe Bergin then they look the likelier winner and perhaps are slightly generous at 4/5 but like Barna, Mountbellew/Moylough fans like to back themselves
In the intermediates, money has come for Oranmore/ Maree who were clipped from 9/4 into 7/4 on the strength of a few big bets.
