It's the Second major of the season and Tiger Woods has about as many friends right now as Enda Kenny. He is now out to 8/1 to win at the scene he won by 15 shots back in 2000. Pebble Beach is one of the finest courses on the PGA tour and with its fairways tightnened and rough lengthened, the theory is Tiger's horrid swing will see him fall appart.
Phil Mickelson is the joint fav, and although I'm a big fan having tipped him up for the Masters, he has never been exactly a great man for hitting the fairways but when you can hit shots like this, maybe you don't need to:
Lee Westwood finally won on the other side of the pond last week but 12/1, not for me.
Rory is proving popular at 25/1 but again is looking short enough. Hollow Quail form would make him the favourite but perhaps it's best to wait in running for this fella to gauge his form. The same would apply with Harrington. I'd rather take 7/1 Saturday in contention than jump in dark early and look the fool.
The 3 against the field for me is Jim Furky, Rory Sabbatini and Y-E Yang
Y-E Yang was the first man to look Tiger in the eye and stop his winning from the front record on "Major Sunday". He showed last season, that form was no fluke and this course will suit his game.
Jim Furyk: Okay I can't seem him winning it but he is a great each way bet with a chance to finally win a big one. He has the perfect game and temperment and should be knocking on the door.
Rory Sabbatini is a pure dark horse and worth a small dabble at a 3 figure price. He showed flashes of his old form at the turn of the season and big priced winners are not uncommon in this tournament to it may pay to throw a dart at this one.
