I must be insane to be backing Youmzain!!!

The Arc-Sunday-3:05 BBC2

The weather is starting to worry Aidan O Brien regarding his star horses Fame and Glory and Cape Blanco and he may even withdraw Fame and Glory if it gets worse from current soft to heavy. I’m not sure is he spoofing the market as I can see nothing wrong with his form on the softer side and being out of Montjeu another sign of a liking for ease, I reckon he should be there about. He has been weak in the market and perhaps his setback that forced him to miss both preps is a sign that all is not well and O Brien is getting his excuses in early. However don’t discount him and remember how weak Dylan Thomas was when he won in 2007.

Second in 2007, and 2008 and 2009, Youmzain goes for 4th time is the charm. The last two renewals he has faced two absolute superstars in Zarkava and Sea the Stars. This season’s renewal is nothing like as good and I see Behkabad and Planteur and even this season’s Derby winner, Workforce as a poor a generation of 3 year olds who won’t cope with their elders even with the weight allowance.

Verdict: Fame and Glory

Youmzain

In the Prix L’Abbaye perhaps another go on Marchand D’or is the ticket at a colossal 16/1. Another poor renewal with no Markab, Startspangledbanner, Fleeting Spirit, Bordelescott, Equiano, Overdose or Kingsgate Native. Swiss Diva has done nothing wrong but at 5 furlongs anything can happen. Just look at Sole Power. Marchand D’or was the best sprinter in the world in 2008 when he won this race. He was injured for 2009 and came back and won at 5 furlongs again at Longchamp in May. He is not the same horse as he was in 2008, but he could still take the beating on his favourite course and on a surface he loves.

Verdict: Marchand D'or to win Prix L'Abbaye

The other two big races this weekend at Newmarket are the Cambridgeshire and the Sun Chariot. Nothing jumps out in the Cambridgeshire as of yet but feel free to add your tip at the end of the blog. Is Nationalism a group horse masquerading as a handicapper? I think I’ll sit back and miss the boat on this one.

In the Sun Chariot, Spacious could finally win that elusive Group One. This filly should star in a chic flick she’s comes 2nd that much. You know the type of movie, always overlooked, apparently not as hot looking until they let down their hair and take off their glasses and show their true beauty to the world, that’s the type of thing that could unfold this Saturday. So unlucky last time in Ireland, only an inspired Murtagh denied her last time on Lilly Langtry. Fallon has chosen Seta and Murtagh himself takes the ride. He got a good close look last time out so will know how to win on her. Rainfall would be interesting if she reappeared after last weeks win.

Verdict: Spacious to win Sun Chariot Saturday at Newmarket 3:05
